Edo politicians clash over burnt campaign cap

Political thugs have destroyed a shop at Uhomora village in Owan West Local government Area, ahead of September 21st Edo governorship election.

The attack was prompted by alleged assault on Edo State House of Assembly staff, who had assaulted a pregnant woman in the village where the State House of Assembly Speaker, Mr Blessing Agbebaku hails from.

It was reported that a heated argument ensues after the staff (name withheld), ordered a pregnant woman to remove her branded campaign baseball cap, from her head while she was walking in a street.

It was learnt that the alleged refusal by the woman to obey the command, led to the assault by the Assembly staff who seized the cap and set the cap ablaze.

The cap had ‘MODEN’, which acronym for Monday and Dennis – first names of the gubernatorial Candidate of APC and his running mate in the election inscribed on it.

It was also gathered that after the victim reported the assault to her husband, an amputee, who immediately mobilized a group of boys who beat up the Assembly staff.

In the raging fury, political thugs thereafter mobilized themselves in solidarity with the middle-aged government worker to the shop and destroyed it and took to flight before the arrival of security operatives.

A source privy to the incident told TheNewspad that “the owner of the shop, is working for the owner of
popular ‘Tarex Bar’, a well-known wealthy APC leader at Uhomora.

The fight was between of the boys working for Tarex bar and one of the new employed Staff of Edo State House of Assembly.

The newly recruited House of Assembly staff saw a woman, whose husband is physically challenged, wearing ‘MODEN’ baseball cap.

“The husband of the woman is a leader of APC while the Assembly staff is a boy to the Assembly Speaker”, according to the source.
