Police intensify search for wife’s killer suspect

Police operatives have launched manhunt for a murder suspect simply identified as Oju for allegedly stabbing his wife, Josephine Isaac

to death in Ogun State.

The domestic violence that led to the murder of a 36-year-old woman happened during a dispute with her husband in Agbure Community, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

Spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State, CSP Omolola Odutola disclosed this on Thursday in a statement that condemned domestic violence.

CSP Odutola said the case was reported to Abigi Divisional Police Headquarters on March 6, 2025, at about 0930 hours, by Isaac Blessing, the younger sister of the deceased.

Blessing recounted that at about 0100 hours, Josephine, who was married to a man identified as Oju (full name yet to be confirmed), of Calabar origin, had a violent dispute with her husband.

She said “the altercation escalated into physical violence, during which the suspect stabbed his wife multiple times in the neck and chest with a knife”.

“Realizing the severity of her injuries and seeing her bleeding profusely, the suspect fled the scene, abandoning her.

“The victim was rushed to Ibiade General Hospital, where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries, as confirmed by medical personnel.

“Upon receiving the report, detectives from Abigi Division swiftly visited the crime scene and recovered potential exhibits.

“The victim’s body has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy, and investigations are ongoing to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice”, Odutola said.

She also assured that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, for further investigation.

The police further said, “Ogun State Police Command strongly condemns all forms of domestic violence and urges residents to seek peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms rather than resorting to violence”.

The statement advised members of the public to report any suspected cases of domestic abuse to the nearest police station or contact emergency lines for immediate intervention.

The Command said it’s actively pursuing the suspect, and we assure the public that justice will be served, according to the statement, which solicited relevant information regarding this case for diligent and prompt investigation.
