Police have recovered body of an unidentified female pedestrian who was crushed to death by a motorcycle rider on Lafenwa Road, Abeokuta road in Ogun State.
25-year-old man motorcycle rider, Kabiru Sanni of Agbo Afoju, Sabo, Abeokuta, crashed into a a TVS motorcycle marked Ogun GBE 566 VC at about 7p.m during the incident on Sunday.
Spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State, CSP Omolola Odutola confirmed this in a statement on Monday.
The Pedestrian whose age, and address remain unknown, was allegedly knocked down while crossing the road due to the reckless riding of the motorcycle, police said.
The statement said the victim “sustained a severe head injury and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi Aba, Abeokuta, where she sadly passed away while receiving treatment”.
CSP Odutola said police personnel visited the accident scene, drew rough sketch, and therefore deposited the deceased’s body at the hospital morgue for preservation and identification.
She also said wreckages of the motorcycle involved have been taken to the station for the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) assessment.
In addition, motorcycle rider has been arrested and detained while his motorcycle, which Motor Traffic Division (MTD) is conducting further investigations, was impounded by the police authorities.
The police Command advised motorcycle riders and other road users to adhere strictly to traffic laws to prevent avoidable road accidents.
