The Bayelsa State governor, Mr Douye Diri has called for a comprehensive and thorough investigation into Wednesday’s boat mishap in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area
He expressed sadness over the cargo boat incident Ezetu 1 Community arising from a burst engine of the ill-fated boat, killing scores of traders.
Diri send his condolence to families of the deceased and injured victims, implore boat operators in the state to ensure strict observation of safety procedures at all times for safer waterways.
The Governor recalled how he immediately directed the relevant ministries and agencies to join in the ongoing rescue efforts.
According to him, “The news is even more disturbing that the accident has claimed some lives and injured many hardworking and resilient traders who were out fending for themselves and their loved ones.
“Upon hearing the sad news of the tragedy, I immediately directed the relevant ministries and agencies to join in the ongoing rescue efforts, as investigations will be carried out to ascertain the cause of this mishap.
“While I condole with the families of the victims of Wednesday’s cargo boat accident, I again implore boat operators in the state to ensure strict observation of safety procedures at all times for safer waterways”, Governor Diri said.
TheNewspad reports that all except on the passengers of the boat died, while emergency responders have recovered some bodies of the victims of the in the tragic incident.
