Vice President Kashim Shettima has declared that Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin is among the “most respected traditional rulers in Nigeria”.
Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima revealed this when he led some Governors elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) and National campaign Council members of the party to Oba Palace at the weekend in Benin City.
He acknowledged the crucial role played by the royal parsonage in promoting peace and national development as custodian of the nation’s cultural heritage.
“Like your name’s sake, you have shown a remarkable leadership. Continue to uphold the rich tradition of your ancestors.
“We do not need to play to the gallery. And if I do so, I owe nobody any apology. You are one of the most respected traditional rulers in this Country”, according to Shettima.
Shettima, eulogized diplomatic skills of the first Class traditional ruler’s “effort in promoting Benin culture, fostering unity amongst your people, and advocating for the return of stolen Benin artefacts”, which he said “will not go unnoticed”.
The Vice President also said, “we see you not not just as a custodian of our tradition, but as a crucial partner in our search for national development”.
“Your Majesty, you bear the name of one of the greatest Obas in Benin history, Oba Ewuare’s role in conflict resolution remains a pathway to Nigeria”, Shettima said.
Responding, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR Oba of Benin, acknowledged the historical recognition of Benin history, espoused by the Vice President.
He promised to continue to build on the legacy of his forebears in promoting Edo heritage, which, he represents not just only Nigeria but the African continent.
Guests were entertained with a great surging symphony of soul lifting traditional songs by Benin palace functionaries danced to royal drum beats in accompany of Oba Ewuare who stood up and walked down to bid his visitors farewell.
