Police discipline officers over cash gifts from foreigner in video

Nigeria police authorities have ordered disciplinary action against officers receiving cash gifts from Chinese Nationals caught receiving wads of cash from a Chinese National in a viral video.

In a statement, police Force spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi who had previously denied knowledge of the embarrassing footage or the incident, said
the officers involved have been identified and subjected to disciplinary proceedings by the Nigeria police Force.

The statement said Force strongly condemned the conduct exhibited by the police officers in the video, describing it as unprofessional and unethical practices.

It also “cautioned individuals and organizations privileged to the services of Police personnel, particularly as escorts and guards or other specialized services, to desist from any act capable of degrading the integrity of its officers and bringing the Force to disrepute”.

TheNewspad reported that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun via a wire message, summoned the officers of the Mobile Police Force (MOPOL 1) who were in Lagos on special duty with the Chinese nationals sharing cash to them during the incident few days ago.

The officers were ordered to appear before the IGP via the Force Public Relations Department on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 9 am without fail, police source said.

He ordered the officers to appear along with Provost of 1 Police Mobile Force (MOPOL) in Kaduna and DSP Aliyu Adejembi for questioning in connection with the circulation of the video showing them lined up to receive cash handouts from the Chinese businessmen.

The notification was contained in a police wireless message obtained by SaharaReporters dated April 15, 2025, reads: “Order and directives. Professional misconduct x discreditable conduct x eye respectfully convey INGENPOL directive x that you warn x release x Provost 1 PMF Kaduna X to come along with DSP Aliyu Adejembi X and team X to interview INGENPOL X through PRESSFOR X unfailingly x on Wednesday 16/04/2025 X at 0900HRS X eye repeat X on Wednesday 16/04/2025 X at 0900HRS X treat as very important please”.
