The University of Benin Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, has approved the appointment of Professor Gabriel Arishe as the University Orator.
In a statement, the Public Relations officer of the University of Benin, Dr (Mrs) Benedicta Ehanire
is a former Head of Department of Public Law of the University, stated that Arishe is a former Head of Department of Public Law of the University.
His appointment as University Orator is for one year and takes effect from the 2nd of May, 2025, according to the statement released on Tuesday April 30th.
The statement also revealed that Arishe’s appointment as University Orator is for one year and takes effect from the 2nd of May, 2025.
“A distinguished scholar in Constitutional Law and Legal Theory, Professor Arishe is a consultant to many international organisations on promoting Judicial independence and access to justice in Africa.
“He is currently the Director, Service Compact with all Nigerians ( SERVICOM) Directorate in the Vice Chancellor’s Office.
“His appointment as University Orator is for one year and takes effect from the 2nd of May, 2025”, Ehanire said.
Meanwhile, a Professor of Biochemistry, University of Benin, Professor Ehimwenma Sheena Omoregie, has been elected President of the Society for Experimental Biology of Nigeria (NISEB).
His appointment was conveyed in previous statement signed by the Public Relations officer of the University, Dr (Mrs) Benedicta Ehanire.
Professor Omoregie, emerged after a keenly contested election which held at the Southern Delta University, Ozoro, Delta State.
The Election Committee chairman, Professor Olalekan Adeyemi, stated that the Committee carried out their assignment with utmost diligence and expressed confidence in the ability of Professor Omoregie and other elected officers to successfully lead the Society.
The statement said, Professor Ehimwenma Omoregie has been involved in researches on therapeutic properties of indigenous medicinal plants and their use in the treatment of inflammatory diseases and other ailments associated with protein energy malnutrition.
She has held several positions in the University of Benin; She was appointed Chairman, Post-UTME Committee in 2020 and is Director, TetFund Projects and World Bank-NUC Centres of Excellence.
