NIPOST workers decry non-payment of salaries

Some Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) workers are set for showdown over non payment of salary arrears by the federal government.

A top Management staff of NIPOST said though their counterpart in the federal Civil Service in most of the Parastatals and Agencies were paid their entitlements by the federal government.

The development has slowdown the productivity of Organization and impacted the morale of its workforce nationwide, according to TheNewspad Media, ahead of the Christmas and New year festivities.

NIPOST Management had blamed the delay in salary payment on logistics and technical issues, which have also affected pensioners that retired from NIPOST.

A directive to Unit Heads and Head of Departments from the Postmaster General of NIPOST to report to work daily, ahead of Christmas and New year holidays.

TheNewspad investigation revealed that most junior NIPOST workers embark on declared ‘work to rule’, while others turn up for work twice weekly against the approved five days weekly.

In Edo State, NIPOST outlets have become a shadow of itself. The challenge is framed by pressure arising from high cost of transportation to work.

The feeble Unions have become helpless due to concerns arising from sanctions by the government and other considerations seem to have muted their voices and workers agitation.
