NDLEA bursts 2,760kg drugs in Lagos shrine

No fewer than 2,760 kilograms illicit drugs consignment were recovered on last week Friday October 25th 2024, when operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency raided the Igbo — Igunuko shrine at Alfa Beach, Ajah area of Lagos State.

Spokesman for the anti-narcotic Agency, Femi Babafemi who confirmed this on Sunday in a statement, explained that the consignment were kept in jumbo bags of Ghanaian Loud, a strain of cannabis, weighing 2,760kg.

Babafemi said two criminal suspects, Gbenga Abiodun and Sunday Abiodun were arrested in connection with the raid.

He said another suspect, Ademola Oyelakin was also arrested same day with 770kg of the same psychoactive substance along Lagos-Ibadan expressway last week.

He also explained that a total of 11,786 pills of tramadol, molly, rohypnol and diazepam as well as 64 bottles of codeine syrup were recovered by NDLEA operatives from the underground storage a suspect, Muhammad Warnos Abdullahi.

The illicit substance was dug in his bedroom at Marwa Coastal road, Lekki Phase 1 Lagos when NDLEA officers raided his home on Friday 25th October 2024.

The NDLEA spokesman also alleged that the suspect dug the illicit drug storage deep in his room, covered it with padlocked iron slate, a rug and then put his mattress on top to avoid detection.

Similarly, NDLEA operatives recovered 640kg cannabis concealed in 80 jumbo bags of fresh vegetables at Ewu junction, Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State last week.

The statement said he drug suspect, Austin Oruamen, 27, was arrested and taken into the custody of NDLEA, which also arrested another suspect Adereti Kazeem, elsewhere in Osun State.

35-year-old Kazeem, according to NDLEA,.was nabbed with 200 blocks of cannabis weighing 133kg at Obalayan, Ile-Ife, Osun state on Thursday 24th October.

NDLEA also carried out various successful operations in FCT, Lagos, Plateau States Commands of the Agency during the previous week, with arrests and made recovery of illicit drugs.
