16-year-old girl, Aisha Suleiman accused of killing her ex-boyfriend
along with his two bosom friends after feeding goat meat pepper soup to the victims in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, has been cleared of murder and set free by the State High court.
She was let off the hook after Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) investigations revealed that the death of the young men were caused by fume from a running generator set left in the room where they slept.
Earlier, bloggers, National Dailies and content creators feasted on the scandal of how a teenager poisoned her estranged boyfriend and two of his friends, caused buzz in the internet in October 2024.
The intervention of a local vigilance member called security personnel who rescued her away from the hands of mob who attempted to douse her and her residence ablaze over the death of Aisha’s ex-boyfriend death in Afashio village.
But the prompt intervention of the Nigeria police operatives who took her into custody and charged her to court where Aishat was remanded in juvenile Welfare custody.
The father of one of the deceased teenagers had said that Aisha did not come to the house the day tragedy struck, but demanded for investigation into the murder incident.
But, a friend to Aisha ex-boyfriend simply identified as Eze NaJapan, shared Aisha and victims’ photographs on social media and made a pledge of N500, 000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira to anyone that could provide the location of murder suspect.
Narrating her ordeal, Aisha alleged that she slept in Iyakpi village whereas the incident happened at Afashio village on the fateful day, months after the father of his ex-boyfriend had barred her from coming to visit his son.
She denied preparing pepper soup for his ex-boyfriend and his friends, moreso that she lives in Iyakpi, while her ex-boyfriend lives in Afashio, contrary to claims they live as if they were married.
Aisha said, “The best friend of my ex-boyfriend posted me wanted. It was my friend that screenshot it and showed me. He (Eze NaJapan) said anyone who sees me, he will give the person N500,000. And he said I am the person who poisoned them.
“While we were going to a police station to report the incident, the same Eze NaJapan with his friends, blocked the road and said that they want to kill me. They said I am the person who cooked the pepper soup”, according to her.
Also speaking, Counsel to the accused, Ibude Osamwonyi said he took interest in the case after being convinced by some friends,. including Human Rights activists, having discovered that Aishat was framed.
Osamwonyi, opted for “No case submission” in court hence the young boys death was attributed to generator fume left in their apartment they slept.
He said, “due to her age, they could not take her to prison custody. So, she was remanded to welfare. Having looked at her case file, we saw that there was no claim linking her to the death”.
The Counsel also alleged that one of the victim’s father said Aishat never came to the house on that day.
The father of the accused, who gave his name as Suleiman, vowed to take legal action against Eze NaJapan over alleged defamation against his family and his daughter.
“The scene of crime was just like a market square. The first thing I saw was four litre of petrol they wanted to burn the girl and the house.
“There was tension. My kinsmen who were present there, asked me to calm down”, he said.
