Nigeria Police have disbursed N17.8 billion to 6,465 next of kin of fallen personnel in eight phases under the leadership, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun said.
He said this during the presentation of insurance benefit cheques to the next of kin of 706 fallen officers on Tuesday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The feat is in addition to the disbursement of N2.99 billion to 706 beneficiaries covering policy years 2020–2024, marking the ninth phase of the project with total insurance N20.84 billion, insurance benefits paid to 7,171 families.
The initiative brings the total insurance benefits paid to N20.84 billion, benefiting 7,171 families, according to a statement by the Force Public Relations officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
He also explained that the backlog of unsettled insurance claims dating from 2010 to 2023, which had caused financial hardship for many affected families.
Commenting on the newly unveiled Nigeria Police Insurance Claims Management Portal (npfinsuranceclaimsmgt.ng), IGP Egbetokun stater that the portal serves as a digital platform designed to streamline the insurance claims process, eliminate delays, and ensure seamless access to benefits.
He explained that the project would improve the overall welfare and promoting transparency in the system.
“In line with this initiative, a specialized training programme has also been introduced for Insurance Desk Officers across 17 Zonal Commands and 37 State Commands to enhance efficiency in claims management and service delivery”, according to him.
The IGP further reiterates the continual strive of the Force’s management in providing succour for families of our fallen heroes and improving the welfare of serving and retired officers.
