Armed security operatives have taken over the national Secretariat of Labour Party (LP) in Abuja, following the leadership crisis that engulfed the party.
This followed a subsisting order of a federal High court at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) presided over by Justice Hamza Muazu that restrained the national Chairman, Julius Abure and the three national officers from parading themselves.
Recall that some members of the National Working Committee of the Labour Party (LP) led by Lamidi Apapa, the deputy National chairman of the party (South), had held their emergency meeting at the secretariat of the party.
During the meeting, Lamidi, unveiled emergency meeting of the LP National Working Committee (NWC), declared himself Acting chairman of LP and announced Saleh Lawan as the Acting National Secretary.
In a bid to avert a violent clashes among the supporters of factions led by Abure and Lamidi, the self acclaimed Acting National Chairman of LP, a combined team of security personnel, including Police, operatives of the Department of State Security Service (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) have been drafted to the Secretariat.
Reacting to the situation, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero in a statement on Thursday evening, maintained that Abure remains the national Chairman of Labour Party.
He decried via the exparte that led to the suspension of Abure alongside the National Secretary, National Treasurer and the Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Messrs Alhaji Farouk Ibrahim, Clement Ojukwu and Opara respectively dubious and illegal.
