Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has disclosed plans to engage the incoming government of Bola Tinubu for the release of leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu if President Muhammadu Buhari refuse to bulge before May 29th handover date.

The Governor made the call for Kanu’s release on Channels Television’s Politics Today Programme, Friday May 26th 2023 in response to the continued detention of the separatist leader in the custody of Department of State Security Service (DSS) in Abuja after he was rearrested in July 2021 and charged with Recall that Kanu who was charged treason, terrorism and other related offences by the Nigerian government.

Soludo’s comments followed his letter of appeal to the President dated April 20, 2023, seeking Nnamdi Kanu’s release, which he claimed was also brought to the attention of Bola Tinubu and the outgoing Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

The Governor who condemned the Monday sit-at-home order by a group of people who call themselves freedom fighters for the IPOB’s leader due to its negative impact on businesses in South East region, insisted that the call for Kanu’s release is a cause he believes in.

According to Soludo, “This is a cause that one believes in. Consistently I am an advocate of the rule of law and justice for all and therefore if you look at that letter, that letter is copied to the President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and I want to also believe that a copy has been delivered to his office as it were.

“The Attorney General is also copied in this letter and if President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration fails to take advantage of this opportunity to really rise above every other thing and be a statesman as it were, if the president fails to take advantage of that, we will be pursuing the same thing with the incoming administration”.
