‘Obaseki’s lackluster’ may spoil Asue Ighodalo’s ambition ― Eholor

A Chieftain of Labour Party, Patrick Eholor says strings of lackluster performance associated with Governor Godwin Obaseki’s government, may thwart Asue Ighodalo’s 2024 governorship ambition in the Stare.

Eholor made the comments few days after some aspirants for the governorship seat, stepped down for Ighodalo ― a frontline aspirant, ahead of PDP primaries election.

Eholor called out Ighodalo on Saturday January 13, 2024 in a Facebook post where he accused Governor Obaseki of presiding over a rock-sided economy in the State with high level of unemployment, insecurity and lack of infrastructural development over the past 7 years.

The LP Chieftain otherwise known as ‘Ultimate Equal’ and President of One Love Foundation, clarified however that he does not have any ‘axe to grind’ with Ighodalo ― former Chairman of Edo State summit Planning Committee, codenamed ‘Alaghodaro’.

But, Eholor also advised Ighodalo to withdraw from the race, which according to him may amount to daring the lion in its den; Just he urged ‘Esan leaders of thought’ from Edo Central Senatorial district to get another aspirant with impeccable blueprint if they (Edo Central people) are determined to win the election.

Eholor asked ― “Asue Ighodalo, where are you going to get the votes to win an election in Edo State? Edo people don’t listen to Godwin Obaseki anymore”, especially as political activities are expected to heat up in the coming days in the State.

“Edo North is a no go area, Edo south is for APC. Chief Dan Orbih and his people are not with Godwin Obaseki. Philip Shaibu is not with his Governor”, Eholor said.

Continuing, “I don’t have anything against Asue Ighodalo and I think the Esan people must get it right if they are going to have a chance of winning this election they should get somebody other than what Godwin Obaseki is recommending and get somebody who has capacity.

“We don’t want anybody who has failed abysmally to refer or impose someone on us, we won’t accept that as people from Edo South South.

“We have no single flyover since Godwin Obaseki came to power, we are one of the most indebted state in the Country. Godwin Obaseki is the best MoU Governor”, he said, ahead of the September 21, poll.

Ighodalo had been endorsed as the consensus Edo State 2024 governorship aspirant by PDP leaders in Edo North and Central Senatorial Districts, without prejudice to the right of other governorship aspirants of the party in the election.

The deputy Governor of the State, Philip Shaibu, who is contesting the election on the platform, rejected Ighodalo’ endorsement, and lamented Governor refusal to consent to his governorship ambition, ahead of the poll.
