'Disbanded Benin Priest' sent out of Kings' forum

The disbanded Chief Priest of Benin, one Mr Isekhure, has been reportedly sent out of South-South traditional rulers Forum.

The unaccredited Benin Palace former official who feared the riling the hardliners, created a scene at the arena on Tuesday May 21st 2024 in Asaba, Delta State.

Decked in Benin traditional regalia, Isekhure, was allegedly reprimanded before he was hurled by security agents at the forum,. according to witnesses.

This followed a peaceful protest by Chief Igiemwin George Ekhator, the Obasogie of Benin and Prof (Chief) Victor Igie lgbineweka, the Osayuwanoba of Benin representatives of His Royal Majesty, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin.

Trouble started when the two Palace Chiefs threatened to stage a walkout over the presence of Isekhure who was the early caller at the Forum, which delt with the house keeping issues before the proceedings began.

Some traditional rulers from Edo Central Senatorial District, had pleaded with the Organizers to shield Isekhure from the public embarrassment during the grubby charade.

But, the pleas fell into deaf ears as traditional rulers from Edo North led by Ima of Sule Idaiye, Imma of Somorika Clan, Akoko-Edo and Aidonigie of South Ibie, Alhaji Kelvin Danisi in Etsako West Local Government Area of the State, threatened to stage a walk out over the unpleasant behaviour of the stranger in their midst.

After the heated arguments, security agents who considered the furore as idiotic, weighed in, and sent out Isekhure whose blood began to run cold upon sighting Oba Ewuare II’s representatives from the meeting disgrafully.

When one of the suspended Dukes from Egor Local Government Area of Edo State who had sued the Oba of Benin in court, who was billed to attend the meeting, immediately made a U-turn and returned to his hotel.

A traditional ruler who attended the meeting, alleged that “the imposture, was surprised to see us”.

“He (Isekhure) never thought that the Oba of Benin would send his Chiefs. He cannot attend the same meeting of Royal fathers.

“After unpleasant incident, Organizers of the event has put modalities in place to avert such occurrence in future”, he said.

Membership of South South-South monarchs Forum, comprises traditional rulers from Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Delta, Rivers States.
