NSCDC bursts 37 FCT scavengers with hard drugs

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has paraded 37 suspected Scavengers caught with dangerous weapons and illicit drugs in Federal Capital Territory.

NSCD Commandant in FCT, Olusola Odumosu, paraded the suspects at the Corps headquarters on Friday in FCT where he alleged the suspects, following the ban on their activities in the area by the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.

The Scavengers also known as Baban bola’s arrest, according to him, was in compliance with the enforcement of new policies of government of regulating the ‘pantaker markets’.

“We have realized that their real business is to vandalize and remove our road infrastructure , they rob innocent commuters and bystanders as they go about with dangerous weapons to attack and dispose them of their personal belongings especially at night.

“They have been restricted to the various dump sites where all the household refuse they wander around for are deposited by the waste management authority”, according to him.

Commandant Odumosu, called on FCT residents to always give relevant information about any suspicious movements or activities of these criminal scavengers to the appropriate authorities .

“It is imperative that citizens and residents join hands with the corps and other security agencies to flush out these dangerous elements in the FCT by chasing scavengers away when ever you see them”, he said.

Acting spokesperson for the NSCDC, FCT, Monica Ojobi said four daggers, three jack knives and three other knives were recovered from the suspects in addition to two chisels and pinches.

She also said 10 bottles of codeine syrup, 45 wraps of cannabis sativa, thrash bags, pieces of iron rods and Narcotic drugs were also recovered from the arrested suspects who are being investigated before they will have their date in court.
