Missing bag of PVCs found in Anambra forest fuels tension

Reports of missing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) found in Nnewi, industrial hub of Anambra State by a yet-to-be identified hunter, has heightened fear among residents of the State, ahead of Saturday February 25th general elections.

But police authorities have allayed the fears expressed by residents of the State over the PVCs that were recovered in a forest.

The incident was first brought to public glare in a disturbing viral video has caused stirs on social Media on Wednesday.

DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, spokesman of the Nigeria police Command in Anambra, said a discrete investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and possible arrest of the culprits behind the act, has began.

Tochukwu on Wednesday in a statement he issued on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, CP. Echeng Echeng, clarified that the Command, is yet to receive any  complaint from anyone or concerned authority.

Citing Community sources, our Correspondent said a hunter saw the bag containing the PVCs in a bush at Akamili in Nnewi on Tuesday, and he later took the bag to Authority FM station.

Speaking to newsmen, Mr Charles Ede, the station’s Manager of the Radio, alleged that he was off duty when the PVCs were brought, but his staff members have reported to him about the incident.

“I was off duty when the incident happened, but one of my staff members received the hunters when they came. I will send you his number,” he said.

The Radio station’s staff had appealed to members of the public who are yet to get their PVCs to come to the premises of the FM to check for their PVCs, which are believed to be for eligible voters from Nnewi South Local Government Area of the State.

A staff of Authority FM who identified himself as Ikenna, confirmed that he received the PVCs, and that they have all been taken to the Obi of Umudim Community in Nnewi.

Attempt to reach the public relations officer of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Anambra State, Dr Kingsley for reaction about how the PVCs got to the area was rebuffed.

TheNewspad reports that fear has griped the majority of Anambra electorate, following plans by desperate politicians to outsmart their opponent in the upcoming elections in the South East, where the Labour party presidential Candidate Mr Peter Obi, hails from.
