Slain LP Candidate, Oyibo features on Enugu Senatorial ballot

Mr Oyibo Chukwu (deceased), featured on the ballot as Candidate of Labour party, LP for Enugu East Senatorial district during presidential and National Assembly polls in Enugu State on Saturday February 23, 2023.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is yet to substitute his name on the ballot in line with the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act, leaving eligible voters in the Constituency to make a choice.

Recall that Oyibo, was shot dead on with his personal assistant by gunmen and set ablaze at his home at Amechi-Awkunanaw area in Enugu South Local Government Areaon Wednesday 22nd February 2023.

Chairman of Labour party, Chief Casimire Agbo, said his part had asked the INEC to reschedule the Senatorial election for substitution of the Oyibo’s name with any other person, fell on deaf ears.

According to Agbo, The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, has since ordered a manhunt for the killers of the Enugu East Senatorial Candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA governorship Candidate Fank Nweke Junior.

The Labour party chairman, condemned the murder of Oyibo, describing it as evil, just as he called on security operatives to intensify measures to forestall  such recurrence.

Meanwhile, the Resident electoral Commissioner in Anambra State, Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu has said that election election did not hold across six units in the State.

Agwu who dropped the hint at a Press briefing, said the decision was taken due to the non-registration of voters in the areas ahead of the elections where 2.5 Registered, with 5000 uncollected Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs.
