Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Edo South Senatorial of All Progressives Congress in the 2027 National Assembly elections, has disclose the reasons why the immediate past Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki couldn’t deliver the Benin River Port at Gelegele during his administration.
He lamented that Obaseki was frustrated despite his good intention towards the multi-billion project over what he termed as the gulf between the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the State under Obaseki and the APC at the federal government led by President Mohammadu Buhari, and Bola Tinubu.
Ize-Iyamu, who stated this when he met APC leaders and delegates to the 2027 National Assembly primary election in the State at Ikpoba-Okha LGA, alleged that, Obaseki was being clever by half to have thought that the State government could execute such a gigantic Port project without the buy-in of the federal government of Nigeria, after commiting tax payers money on it.
“Obaseki projected Gelegele. It was not really a bad idea, hence Edo never had a Port. We wouldn’t have been able to attain that level that we have found ourselves today.
“You want to dredge Gelegele. It is a good thing to Edo State, but where Obaseki deceived himself is that part where he failed to realize that a project, a State cannot enter into it, but the federal government.
“So, if you do not have a good relationship with the federal government, to get that cooperation and get the job done, it will be difficult to do it.
“In addition, if you do not have a good Senator, that can speak at the Senate, how will achieve that kind of project? People are complaining that things are not working, it is because those we sent to National Assembly in the past are not speaking”, according to Ize-Iyamu.
