Tinubu suspends EFCC chairman Bawa indefinitely

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Wednesday approved the indefinite suspension of the chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa from office.

This came few days after the President approved the indefinite suspension of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele for alleged corruption in another shake up of federal government agencies.

The Director, Information, office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey disclosed Bawa’s suspension in a statement on Wednesday.

He revealed that the action will allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office, following weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against Bawa.

The suspended EFCC chairman was directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission, pending the conclusion of investigations.

“This follows weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.

“Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation”, according to the statement.

TheNewspad recalls that former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari appointed the embattled EFCC Chairman in February 2021.
