Technician hacks mediator to death in Edo

Tragedy struck in Nekpenekpen Street off First East Circular Road Benin, in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State last week Thursday when a technician with his family, allegedly hacked a mediator to death, following a disagreement over a fairly use faulty standing fan he failed to fix after collecting undisclosed sum of money for repair.

Owner of the fan simply identified as Eghe, was reported to have accosted an unnamed technician (now at large) and demanded for his property from the him at a nearby local restaurant in the area, escalated the ongoing feud between them, leading to a fight that ended in tragedy thereafter.

It was also gathered that the argument degenerated after the technician raised the alarm that his mobile phone had been stolen at the restaurant.

The alarm caught the attention of his angry family members who live in Ofumwengbe street off 2nd East Circular Road, mobilized themselves and stormed the restaurant where they pounced on the mediator, Osamuyi a.k.a Chigbon with blows.

Sources said after the fight, the victim was accused of supporting his friend, Eghe while mediating over the dispute, limped to his house few hours later.

The victim was also said to have been unable get medical attention after he began to bleed from his nostrils in the dead of the night.

In the early hours of Friday, Chigbon who is seen as a level-headed man, died after screaming in agony as a result of suspected internal bleeding complications in his apartment.

A business woman who sighted some persons in front of Chigbon’s house at about 5:30a.m on the same day in shock over the tragedy, was said to have secretly informed the family of the alleged murderer about the incident.

Consequently, the technician and his sister, identified as Fatima, fled after learning that police were trailing them over Chigbon who’s was said to be his mid 40’s, killing.

But, luck ran out of the technician’s parents who allegedly mobilized and joined their son (technician) in the street fight, as they have been arrested by police operatives who have launched manhunt on the fugitive and his gang members linked to the alleged murder.

Police have also arrested two other suspects in addition to the prime suspect’s parents, while investigation into the cause of death has begun.

Furious youths in the area are lamenting over the despicable act of cruelty and have accordingly vowed to avenge the killing of the Benin indigene whose body had been deposited in a morgue ahead of a likely investigation for possible forensic evidence linking the murder suspects to the alleged crime.

The fugitives who are non-indigenes are said to be migrants from South Western part of Nigeria to Benin City. They had reportedly lived peacefully in the area before this avoidable attack leading to the unbearable tragedy to the deceased family.
