Okpebholo leads as PDP rejects Edo guber results

The Independent election has declared results from 16 out of 18 Local government Areas in Edo State governorship election held on Saturday election where Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Monday Okpebholo is leading in the results declared on Sunday afternoon by the Electoral umpire.

INEC stood down the ongoing State Collation exercise to 5p.m on Sunday to pave the way for Returning officers in Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Areas submit results of the election in the areas.

The All Progressives Congress has won 10 (Ten) LGAs, while Peoples Democratic Party is trailing behind with six (6) LGAs, according to the official results from the 16 LGAS declared by INEC with Labour Party Candidate, Olumide Akpata occupying the third position at the poll.

Results announced by INEC indicates that PDP’s Ighodalo got the highest total votes of 14, 199 votes in his Local government, Esan South East Local Government Area, while APC’s Okpebholo raked the second highest with 8, 398 votes, while Olumide Akpata of Labour Party got just 98 votes.

Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna – INEC returning officer who disclosed this on Sunday, said APC’s Okpebolo won his LGA with a total of 10, 990 votes, followed by PDP’s Ighodalo, 8,618 votes, and Akpata with 418 votes in the election.

APC’s Okpebolo won in Egor LGA with 16,760 alongside Ighodalo’s PDP, who scored 14,657 votes ahead of Akpata’s LP who had 1966 votes.

APC also secured victory in Akoko-Edo LGA after polling 34,847 votes ahead of PDP, which scored 15,865 votes and LP that garnered 2,238 votes.

APC won with 12,952 in Esan West LGA where PDP scored 11004 votes ahead of LP that secured 342 votes.

APC also won Esan Central with 10,900 votes ahead of PDP, which scored 8,618 votes ahead of 418 votes for LP at the poll.

Similarly, APC scored Etsako Central LGA with 11,906 while PDP polled 8, 455 votes ahead of its rival LP which scored 381 votes.

In the same vein, APC emerged victorious in Etsako East LGA with 20167 votes while PDP occupied the second position with 9683 votes ahead of LP 604 votes.

In Owan West LGA, Nigeria’s ruling party (APC) secured 12,277 to defeat PDP that scored 11,284 notes ahead of 446 LP votes.

APC won Owan East LGA 19,380 ahead of PDP ruling party that scored 14,189 votes.

In addition, APC won in Etsako West LGA after polling 32,107 votes to defeat PDP that scored 17,483 votes ahead LP 2116 votes at the poll.

But APC lost the poll in Ovia North East LGA with 13,225 while PDP got 15311 ahead LP that 1675 votes.

However, APC defeated Orhiomwon LGA with 16058 votes ahead of PDP that polled 14,614 votes at the poll.

APC lost with 5,907 votes to PDP that polled 8,470 in Igueben LGA, while PDP also defeated APC in Uhunmwode LGA with 8776 votes ahead of 769 LP votes.

But APC won with 32, 107 votes in Etsako West LGA where PDP polled 17,483 ahead 2116 LP votes.

At different intervals at the collation of election results, the Peoples Democratic Party agent for the governorship election, Osaigbovo Tony Iyoha, lampooned INEC for alleged irregularities in the election.

He accused the electoral umpire of colluding with APC to skew the election to the disadvantage of PDP and thereafter rejected results in some of the LGAs.

Iyoha particularly contested the results declared in Esan Central, Estako Central, Estako East and Orhiomwon LGAs. But, his concerns were allayed by INEC.

The Agent for ZLP, President Aigbokhan echoed the same sentiments expressed by Iyoha, lamented that results declared by INEC were at variance with the
the results viewing IReV portal of the Commission.

Earlier, the Director General of AsueOgie campaign Council,. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, accused a former Governor of the State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole of allegedly manipulate the results in favour of APC.
