Oba of Benin celebrates ‘important Emoro’ ― New yam festival

Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin, will perform the traditional Emoro festival otherwise known as new yam festival today (Wednesday October 4th 2023) in his Palace, Benin City, Edo State.

A statement by Chief Stanley Obamwonyi, the Esere of Benin on behalf of the Palace, said the celebration is in line with Benin customs and tradition, the Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, has decided to resuscitate the ancient Emoro traditional festival that has not been celebrated for many years.

Chief Esere said in addition, Oba Ewuare II, have invited all sons and daughters of Benin Kingdom including members of the Benin Royal family, Palace Chiefs, Edionwere, Okao, lgiohen (Priests and Priestesses), market women among others to a feast, billed for Friday 6th October, 2023 at the Oba’s Palace by 12pm Prompt.
