LASU student, two others killed in Ogun road accident

A road crash that occurred on Sagamu-Benin highway has claimed the lives of a student of Lagos State University (LASU) and two other travellers on Monday 15th August 2023.

The multiple accident on the highway, according to witnesses, involves a Lexus, a moving truck and a Toyota Sienna.

SP. Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State said the crash was reported by to Police by witnesses.

She gave the names of the accident victims in Press statement as Rasak Olayinka, Kelechi Nwagu and a male driver of the Lexus car, Sorunke Emmanuel.

The crash occurred at about 0645hrs, before Babcock University junction on Sagamu-Benin Highway, involves a white colour Geon Truck marked LAR 730 XB, driven by one Rasak Olayinka.

The Police spokesperson blamed the crash on alleged reckless by the driver of the car that crashed into the moving truck as a result the Lexus somersault, and the third vehicle which is the Sienna vehicle that crashed into the Lexus car.

She said the Lexus was trapped while the 26-year-old man who was one of the occupants that was rescued by the Divisional Police Officer, Ikenne division, SP Oladepo Oarinoye.

The victim was thereafter taken to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ogun State for urgent medical attention, but he was pronounced dead by a doctor.

The Police listed human error including, alcoholic influence driving, phone engagement, over speedy while only few other crashes account for mechanical faults, according to the statement.

“it’s occupants one Ademola Ayinla Timothy “26yrs was rescued and rushed to the hospital but did not make it. All affected and damaged vehicle have been evacuated and recovered to the station”, SP. Odutola.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has called on motorists, drivers, and road users, to exercise caution and shun in untoward behaviour to be safe.
