Catholic Priest shot dead in Edo

A Catholic Priest was reportedly shot dead by gunmen in Edo State, causing pandemonium among staff and school’s Management.

The Cleric identified as Reverend Father Charles, worked in St. Michaels College, Ikhueniro in Uhunmwode Local government Area of the State until his death.

Hoodlums engaged the Cleric in a fatal confrontation, while he was on his way to the school on Thursday morning.

Reverend Father Jude who Catholic church Commutations Department at Bishop office in Benin City, confirmed the attack and death of the Priest to TheNewspad Correspondent in Benin.

Reverend Father Jude said, “The Priest that died is working at Saint Michael’s College. But, he was not attacked at Saint Michael’s College.

“We do not know who attacked him. We are still investigating the incident, along with the security agents”, Reverend Father Jude said.

A statement by the Nigerian Police Command in Edo State, is being awaited.

TheNewspad recalls that the Edo State government said on Tuesday held its security meeting at the Government House, Benin City where the State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, announced a decrease in crime rate in the State.

He revealed government plans to curb drug abuse and spike in cultism and other social vices in the State through engagement with Stakeholders in the State.
