Suspected hoodlums chased away traders on Friday morning in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, barely 24 hours to the commencement of Saturday February 25, 2023 elections.

DREADFUL AND STRANDED TRADERS IN BENIN OVER ALLEGED FORCEFUL SHITTING DOWN OF THEIR SHOPS BY HOODLUMS ON FRIDAY

This followed their alleged preference for Peter Obi, Presidential Candidate of Labour Party (LP) at the elections.

It was learnt that the hoodlums who wielded dangerous weapons were said to have stormed Mission road, Forestry, and its environs and forcefully shut down their shops.

Sources said some of affected traders, had called the bluff of the Candidates in one of the major political parties that came to campaign in the area previously.

Tempers flare as gunshots rent the air, while residents in the locality ran for safety.

Security agents acting on a distressed call, dislodged the thugs and chased them away and prevented the situation from degenerating into a free-for-all.

The hoodlums were said have regrouped at Upper Mission extension, New Benin where they were dispersed by riot policemen few minutes later.

A member of Edo Civil society Organizations who does not want name published, wondered why some agents of State resort to coerce lawful citizens over their political choices in a bid to win the election.
