How suspected cultists killed vigilante near police station in Benin

Tragedy struck when a Edo State Security Network popularly known as vigilante was shot reported murdered by a group of revenge-seeking suspected cultists at Ibiwe area, less than half kilometer from Oba market police Division in Oredo Local Government Area of the State.

The yet-to-be identified victim was said to have been trailed to where he sat alone before he was allegedly murdered by suspected assailants who made chants by members of the brotherhood on Sunday night April 27th 2025.

The victim whose body was evacuated at hours after the incident, was the head of Ibiwe, Isekhere, Ebo streets, and other areas including the popular market in the area before his death, which has been linked to the resurgence of cult killings in Edo State”.

A source said his body was mutilated by the hoodlums after several gunshots that they fired at him could not penetrate his body.

“They (hoodlums) dragged him on the floor and attacked with other dangerous weapons during the incident that has left everyone is us in shock.

“The man should be in his late 50’s. He had boys that work under him to provide security for shops around the locality. It was planned by those who killed him.

Spokesman for the Nigeria Police Command in Edo State, CSP Moses Yamu told TheNewspad “the Command is aware of the incident. Victim was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead”.

He revealed that “investigation is ongoing to uncover the motive behind the attack and arrest perpetrators”.
