3 feared killed in shi’ites violent protest in Zaria

 

A violent protest by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria has left at least three persons dead during an encounter with Nigerian Army troops, Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region said on Monday April 28.

The report said the victims are believe to be members of the outlawed Islamic sect, were allegedly shot dead for attacking soldiers deployed from Nigeria Army Depot Zaria, Kaduna State to dispersed protesters.

The protest, according to competent sources,
began in Sabon Gari market where the Protestants staged massive protest to remember the Killing of their fellow members in a violent clash in 2018.

“But things took an ugly dimension when the sect numbering hundreds carrying dangerous weapons, barricaded the roads, and began pelting vehicles with heavy stones and dangerous objects.

“The members of the sect also attempted to attack the police station in Kasuwan Mata in Sabon Gari, before the security personnel were deployed subvert their plans.

He said that the sect members again stormed PZ road in large numbers, obstructing traffic and throwing stones and at police and military operatives, which resulted in the killing of three persons while many others were injured.

The incident, obstructed traffic, forcing shop owners to closed down their shops as many scampered for safety.

The operatives had been able to disperse the protesters and brought the situation under control, according to the security sources.

TheNewspad recalls that an unspecified number of Shi’ites members had been arrested and detained by security forces in some security formations in connection with violent attacks on security personnel and civilians especially during protests in Nigeria.
