Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Edo South Senatorial of All Progressives Congress in the 2027 National Assembly elections, has promised to create job opportunities for the people of his constituents, if given the mandate to represent them at the Senate.
He made the pledge while addressing APC faithful and delegates to the forthcoming National Assembly primary election in the Senatorial District.
But he lamented the lack of infrastructure, including roads and electricity in Orhionmwon LGA, despite having the largest gas deposit in Nigeria and largest landmass, and Ikpoba-Okha LGA, that had the highest number of votes cast during the previous election.
The former Secretary to the State Government noted that the District needs a vocal voice that can advance the interest of Edo South people at the federal level.
He informed the delegates that he is determined to serve the people and reverse the past narratives of Edo South Senatorial District from being spectators in making policy decisions for its people to making its own decisions by themselves if given the opportunity to mantle.
“We have a lot of educated people in Edo South. Most of them have PhDs, a few are in classrooms. But when it comes to employment, our people are the most disadvantaged despite their qualifications. If you don’t have people at the top, it’s difficult to get white collar jobs.
“Hence, we will create job opportunities for the people. That is why you need competent and vocal voice to represent you at the Senate”, according to him.
Ize-Iyamu also said, Benin airport remains the second busiest local airport in Nigeria after Lagos airport. But what do we have to show for it? That airport (Benin airport) has not been upgraded to international standard for several years now.
He further stated that Benin City, which is the Edo State Capital was excluded in the federal government railway project from Abuja to some other parts of the State, because the Senatorial District didn’t have a vibrant legislator when the decision was made by the federal government at that time.
