Joint security operatives, comprising the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, prevented a reprisal attack by youths from the Bundot area who stormed the Bayan Fada area in Dass Local Government Area on Friday.
This followed the alleged murder of a 29-year-old tricycle rider from the Bundot area, who was intercepted and brutally attacked with cutlasses on various parts of his body by hoodlums.
The tragedy occurred at the Tudun Wus area in Dass Local Government Area on September 4, 2026, the spokesman of the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Habib, said in a statement on Saturday.
He stated that the prime suspect, Ibrahim El-Safwan, popularly known as Jabala’i, of the Bayan Fada area, criminally conspired with his accomplices to intercept and attack the victim at approximately 0800 hours on September 4, 2026.
The police spokesman said, “Upon receipt of the report, a team of policemen attached to Dass Division swiftly mobilized to the scene”.
“On arrival, it was discovered that personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, whose headquarters is close to the scene, had already taken custody of the tricycle and one suspect”.
”The victim was immediately rushed to General Hospital, Dass, where he was subsequently confirmed dead by a medical doctor”, according to the statement, which confirmed the arrest of suspects in connection with the crime.
Angry youths from the Bundot area subsequently mobilized in large numbers, armed with dangerous weapons, and stormed the Bayan Fada area to launch a reprisal, according to the police.
The statement identified some of the male suspects as Umar Abubakar, 20, of Bayan Fada; Blus Garba, 19, of Bundot; Adamu Muhammad, 17, of Bundot; and Hussaini Danjuma, 17, of Bundot.
Other suspects listed include Hassan Danjuma, 17; Shuaibu Sani, 17; and Aliyu Abdullahi, 18, all of the Bundot area.
The statement added: “This led to a violent confrontation between the two groups at an open space near Dass’ Central Motor Park, during which another victim, Mukhtar Jibrin ‘m’, 38-years-old, of Bayan Fada area, was stabbed.
”Mukhtar was rushed to General Hospital, Dass, and later referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was also confirmed dead.
”However, in a prompt and coordinated save-our-soul response, detectives swung into action, doused the tension, restored normalcy in the area”, according to the statement, which assured that normalcy had been restored and vowed relentless efforts to apprehend other accomplices still at large.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killings and ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the case.
He appealed to residents of Dass to remain calm and law-abiding, and to desist from taking the law into their hands, assuring that justice will be served.
