The Nigeria police have rescued two abandoned babies in separate incidents across the Kurudu and Gwagwalada areas of Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.

the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
She said police have launched investigation into both cases and are actively seeking public assistance to identify the mothers and families involved.
The first incident occurred on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, when a resident named Innocent heard a baby crying on Obodo Street in Kurudu around 5:30 PM.
Upon investigating, he discovered a baby boy carefully wrapped in cloth and left inside a carton box, prompting him to immediately report the matter to the Kurudu Police Station.
Acting swiftly on the report, officers from the Kurudu Division and the Juveniles and Women Care (JWC) Department rushed to the scene.
They retrieved the infant and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel confirmed he is in a stable condition.
Following initial documentation, the FCT police transferred the baby boy to the Social Welfare Department for specialized care.
“The baby was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical assessment and is currently in a stable condition, while efforts are being intensified to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abandonment.
“The Command has concluded all necessary documentations and handed over the baby to the Social Welfare Department for further care”, according to the police spokesperson.
In the mean time, detectives have intensified efforts to uncover the circumstances that led to the abandonment of the child in Kurudu.
In a separate incident on the same day at approximately 9:40 PM, another rescue unfolded in the Gwagwalada area.
A local resident, Mr. Ibrahim, heard an infant crying outside his gate and discovered an abandoned baby girl on his premises.
Mr. Ibrahim and community members promptly stepped in to secure the child before reporting the incident to the Gwagwalada Police Station at about 10:15 PM.
The JWC Department subsequently transported the baby girl to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for thorough medical examinations and ongoing care.
Commending the vigilance of Innocent, Ibrahim, and other community members, the police command urged anyone with useful information regarding the babies’ families to come forward.
