The Nigeria police Command in Bauchi State has ordered a discreet investigation into claims by a police corporal, Yusuf Aliyu, that he had been unable to access his salary for about two years.
The Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu ordered probe, following a letter circulated on social media by the officer alleging difficulties in accessing his salary and announcing his purported resignation from the Police Force.
In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said the investigation was aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding the alleged restriction on the officer’s bank account.
The Command, however, said preliminary findings showed that the officer’s salary had been paid promptly and consistently by the police authorities.
According to the statement, the difficulty arose from a discrepancy in the officer’s Bank Verification Number (BVN), with the name linked to the BVN reportedly differing from the name on his salary account, resulting in the restriction.
The Commissioner assured officers and men of the Command that their welfare remained a priority and that genuine complaints would receive appropriate attention.
He also urged personnel to channel grievances through established administrative procedures rather than resorting to social media, stressing the need for compliance with the Nigeria.
