‘Yahoo boy’ hacked to death over disputed N15m proceed of online fraud transaction

A middle-aged man identified only as Courage has been hacked to death over his alleged refusal to remit the sum of $1,000 (N15 million) transaction reportedly realized from internet fraud to his friend, said to be a fraudster (‘Yahoo boy’).

The Nigeria Police Command in Delta State,
SP Bright Edafe revealed that the incident that occurred on January 21, 2026, in the Agbarho community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the State.

A grossly footage of the incident, obtained by police, Oghenegare admitted that he and the deceased were close friends. But things turned sour when Courage allegedly “logged” him out of the process of the disputed transaction.

Edafe, identified the murder suspect, as Oghenegare, who committed the crime following a disagreement between him and the victim, whose body has been evacuated by the police.

The police spokesman stated that Oghenegare, was apprehended and detained in custody at the State Command Headquarters, Asaba over the alleged murder of his childhood friend.

Edafe also explained that a violent confrontation caused the fight between both men were involved in internet fraud (Yahoo Yahoo) a $1,000 online deal they both had, led to the tragedy.

“The suspect confronted the deceased and hit him on the head in the ensuing fight,” Edafe said. The victim later succumbed to the injury sustained in the altercation, according to the police image maker.

Edafe, lamented the growing number of murder cases in the state, which he linked to temper issues, drug abuse, and easily avoidable conflicts.

“We are worried about the increasing rate of murder cases being recorded in the state due to hot temper, drug abuse and issues that could be resolved,” Edafe said.

He urged residents to shun violence and seek lawful ways of resolving disputes.

The Delta State Police Command has indicated that a full investigation is underway and that the suspect will be charged appropriately as the case progresses.

Oghenegare said in a statement with police that the victim had prevented him from completing the deal, triggering the confrontation that led to the fatal blow.

The suspect will have his date in court when ongoing investigation is concluded by the police, according to Edafe.
