Wife sets Army officer on fire over alleged infidelity in Akwa Ibom

A military officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna whose wife, doused him in petrol and thereafter set him on fire, has lost his life battle at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) in connection with a domestic dispute.

The officer sustained severe burns and was initially treated at the Military Reference Hospital (MRS) in the barracks before he was transferred to health facility shortly after the incident occurred at the Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The victim who died at the intensive Care Unit of the hospital, was said to have had an extramarital dispute with his wife who has been arrested by military authorities for alleged murder, dating back on September 22, 2025, barely five months after the couple’s marriage.

According to TheNetworkonline, Haruna, a medical doctor who served as the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) of the 6 Battalion, was said to have engaged in a heated argument with his wife, Mrs. Samson Haruna, which allegedly escalated into violence.

Military authorities immediately took the murder suspect, Mrs Samson Haruna into custody and have launched to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the crime.

Lieutenant Haruna who was a medical doctor that served as the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) of the 6 Battalion, according to his colleagues who described him as a dedicated, disciplined, and compassionate officer, military sources told TheNewspad.
