Why LP will lose Edo guber poll — Chieftain

A Chieftain of Labour Party, Dr Patrick Osagie Eholor has declared that identity crisis of Edo governorship Candidate of the party in the September 21, 2024, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata and his running-mate, Princess Oluyinka Alufohai, is counterproductive.

Eholor made the prediction in an Open Letter to Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata who is from Edo South Senatorial District, 24 hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) published the particulars of governorship Candidates of the 17 political parties contesting the poll.

The LP Chieftain argued that “it took us (LP) some time to be able to clear out so many doubts about your State of origin and in particular the name Olumide and now again the person you have chosen to be a deputy Governor, unfortunately is also flaunting her Yoruba name.

“This should send a signal to you that Labour Party is at the verge of losing this election as many Edo State citizen believe that she is a Yoruba woman.

“My dear Osaigbovo O. Akpata. It is high time you took full responsibility about some wrong going on within your campaign team and Edo state Labour Party so as to avoid the upcoming disaster.

“Where she is from does not matter to me (Eholor) so long she is a Nigerian, but my concern now is there are too many reports from her own Constituency (Edo North) and so many petitions written from her own Constituency that the Labour Party National Chairman and Labour Party state chairman, Kelly Ogbaloi are aware. Sadly, none of these petitions have been addressed; If your people don’t like, you and are unlikely to vote for you then who are you expecting to vote for you?

“Be mindful do not say I did not tell you after the result My concern is for you to win this election as I have fought too hard for you as a person. I have even accused the Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki of destroying your billboard with me, yourself and Peter Obi.

“I have fought everybody who has tried to cast aspersion on you, but I am doing it based on my belief. I hope and pray you take this advice, which is not just my advice, but general advice from those who are concerned about you (Olumide and Alufohai) in winning this governorship election”, Eholor queried.

Eholor also prayed God almighty to guide and grant the next Governor of Edo State, the wisdom, understanding, political will and courage to do what is right.
