Outrage as soldier hacks trader to death in Ondo

Business activities were temporary disrupted on Saturday along Arakale Road and Mobil area of Akure, the Ondo State Capital City where a soldier allegedly stabbed a trader to death.

This followed a peaceful protest by traders at the crowded area in reaction to the deceased trader simply identified as Ebuka, who was said to have lost his life battle on his way to undisclosed hospital for medical attention.

Trouble started when one of the soldiers mobilized his colleagues to forcefully collect some money he had paid for a service that was rendered by the victim after a little argument.

It was leant that the resistance by the trader, led to a fracas with the unidentified soldier stabbing the 27-year-old trader to death.

One of the traders who spoke to newsmen during the protest, said the soldiers also beat family members of the late trader and sniff life out of him.

TheNewspad reports that security personnel, including police operatives braved the odds in curtailing hoodlums from hijacking the procession.

Commuters, and other road users had hectic time in accessing their destinations.

Arakale road and other adjourning street, convulsed in heavy traffic while some shops in the area were shut.

A senior police officer who accompanied the protesters in the procession, confirmed the incident, but declined to give details.

“Yes, the police can confirm the stabbing of a young man by a soldier, the Command is in touch with the military authority so that the culprit(s) can be identified and arrested, he said.
