President, Donald Trump has signed an Executive Order, ordering US flags to be flown at ‘half staff’ in honour of the late Roman Catholic leader.
The Pope died at the age of 88 on Monday from stroke after proclaiming the traditional Easter Sunday service blessings to the crowd at Saint Peters Basilica.
He signed an Executive Order, Monday to lower the US flags to half staff within the seven days mourning period.
Trump who made the announcement on Truth social media posts where he said, “Melinda and I will attend the Pope’s funeral event.
He also joined the world leaders in paying tributes to the Pope who left a legacy of faith, service and compassion.
According to Gray News, “I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, on the day of interment” Trump wrote.
He said, “I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations”.
Flags also lowered in Italy
Flags flew at half-staff in overwhelmingly Roman Catholic Italy. The faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square.
