Tongues wag as Nigeria Surgeon dies in S/Arabia

Tongues have continued to wag over the sudden death of a Nigerian Consultant Trauma Surgeon, Prof. Pius Ehiawaguan Iribhogbe in Saudi Arabia last Wednesday.

Sources said the former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), University of Benin, was billed to return to Nigeria on tragedy on Friday April 26th 2024, before the unfortunate incident.

The University’s spokesperson, Dr (Mrs) Benedicta Ehanire confirmed the surgeon’s death, but said the school is yet to issue a statement.

It was gathered that the the inability of Iribhogbe’s family in Nigeria to reach him on phone for logistics arrangement ahead of his arrival this weekend, prompted curious family members to probe further

TheNewspad reports that preliminary investigation revealed that the University of Benin scholar passed in his sleep, according to a dependable source in Saudi Arabia.

His body was discovered after concerned Nigerian Physician, alerted security agents who traced him to his residence in Saudi Arabia, where investigation into the incident has commenced.

The Sexagenarian was on sabbatical leave at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH
where he Head, Department of Surgery and Co-ordinator, School of Paramedics.

The death of the scholar who delivered the 188th UNIBEN inaugural lecture titled, “Injury: Rumination of a Trauma Surgeon” on Thursday May 4, 2017, has thrown the University community and UBTH as well as his family into mourning.
