The national Publicity Secretary of the Africa Democratic Congress, ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi has alleged that this behind the deregistration of the party, ahead of the forthcoming general elections in 2027, are playing with fire.
This followed a Federal High Court in Abuja presided by Justice Peter Lifu who ordered the deregistration ADC and four other political parties for failing to meet the constitutional requirements for political parties on Monday morning.
Daily Trust quoted News Agency of Nigeria as reporting that the five political parties are the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), Action Peoples Party (APP) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the suit which was filed by a group, Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators, filed the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026 against the five political parties.
In the same judgment, justice LIfu, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the affected parties, having failed to secure 25 per cent of the votes in the last general elections in compliance with the provisions of the law.
Responding, the ADC’s spokesman, who issued the subtle threat on Monday evening when he featured on Channels Television programme tagged, “Politics Today”, described the justice Lifu’s judgement as judicial rascality
“We reject attempts by APC to truncate democracy in totality.
“Those behind it are playing with fire that they have not seen in the Country in the past”, he said, “It is a warning more than any other thing”.
The ADC publicity Secretary accused the judge of acting a script of the APC and the government of President Bola Tinubu , who is the Candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the election unopposed in the poll.
Abdullahi said, “You are reengineering the process that could truncate democracy. Whether they like it or not, ADC will contest in the 2027 elections”, according to Abdullahi.
He also argued that there is no basis for the court order, citing a deliberate attempts by the ruling government to eliminate contenders in the 2027 general elections after the ADC has fulfilled all the constitutional requirements.
Continuing, Abdullahi said, “We are a bit surprised. What surprised us is that we know the judiciary has a problem, which Nigerians know.
“But what we did not expect is the level of judicial rascality”, the ADC’s spokesman stressed.
The judgement is against the decision of the court of appeal that said, stay process until the case is heard on October 27, 2027, according to him.
“The presiding judge was acting a script of the APC and the government of President Bola Tinubu.
“What they have done has no leg to stand in the eye of the law.
“We have been baked in adversity despite the legal issues. We don’t buckle when it comes to elections”, Abdullahi said while assuring ADC members and its supporters that the order of the High court will not stand the test of time.
