Mutfwang bans Hisbah activities in Plateau LG

Date:

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateaue State has officially banned unauthorized Hisbah activities across parts of the Jos North Local Government Area.

This followed widespread reports of intimidation, harassment, extortion, and the imposition of unauthorized rules on residents in the State.

In an official statement issued on Sunday, August 30, 2026, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Gyang Bere, instructed security agencies to immediately halt these unconstitutional operations in the area.

Security forces have been ordered to identify, investigate, and arrest individuals involved in unauthorized Hisbah activities, accordingly.

The government emphasized that anyone caught promoting, sponsoring, aiding, or abetting these unlawful acts will face full prosecution under Nigerian law.

He reiterated that Plateau State operates under a single, unified legal system and constitution, meaning no group holds the authority to assume powers not conferred by statute.

Mutfwang stressed that this directive is not targeted at any specific religion, ethnic group, or community. Instead, the administration maintains that Plateau State remains home to diverse faiths and backgrounds entitled to equal protection under the law.

The statement reaffirmed that every resident possesses the absolute right to live, worship, conduct lawful business, and move freely without interference from self-appointed authorities.

He anchored his decision on the need to upholding public safety, safeguarding individual dignity, and preserving the state’s long-standing tradition of peaceful coexistence remain core priorities of the current administration.
