Police have ordered a manhunt for assailants behind the alleged murder of two persons in separate locations on Sunday, August 30, 2026, in Awka, Anambra State.
Three unidentified persons, travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla vehicle with a registration number yet-to-be ascertained, carried out the attack, the Nigeria Police Command said.
The spokesman for the command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed that one of the victims is yet-to-be identified, while the second victim was identified as Isaac Nwosu (male), also known as “Azia”.
He said, “Upon receipt of the distress information, Command operatives immediately mobilised patrol teams to the affected areas and commenced efforts to track down the assailants”.
He also said: “Upon arrival at the scenes, the operatives recovered the bodies of the victims on Capital City Road, Amaenyi, and S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, Awka, respectively”.
The victims were taken to a hospital, where they were subsequently confirmed dead by medical personnel, according to the police, which also recovered the sum of ₦7,550, one Moniepoint ATM card, and a pair of slippers from the scenes.
The command called for the support and cooperation of members of the public to assist in bringing the suspects to justice.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, strongly condemned the attack and directed the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a discreet and comprehensive investigation.
In the meantime, security operatives have intensified patrols, surveillance, and intelligence gathering across Awka and adjoining areas.
