Operatives of the Nigeria police Command in Bauchi State have arrested 20-year-old Abdullahi Abubakar for allegedly leading a phone-snatching syndicate during a religious procession that turned violence.
He said the alleged robbery occurred on Monday, August 25, 2026, around 12:30 PM, and was reported to the VCRU base on Wednesday, August 27, 2026 at Kofar Fada, Bauchi Local government Area.
The criminal suspect snatched an ‘Honor’ mobile phone valued at 50,000 Naira and 30,000 Naira in cash from a 25-year-old worshipper.
When the victim detained the primary suspect, an accomplice named Babale Sule struck the victim on the forehead with a stick, causing an injury that required medical treatment, while the main suspect temporarily escaped.
The statement partly reads: ”In the first incident, on Wednesday, 27th August 2026 at about 0910hrs, a 25-year-old man of Unguwan Mangororin Sale Toro, Bauchi LGA, reported at the VCRU Base, Kwanan Kwaila, Jahun area that on Monday, 25th August, 2026 at about 1230hrs”.
It also said, ”while observing a Maulud procession on Kofar Fada, one Abdullahi Abubakar, male, 20-year-old, of Unguwan Ardo area, snatched his ‘Honor mobile phone’ valued at Fifty Thousand Naira and a cash sum of Thirty Thousand Naira”.
”When the complainant held on to Abdullahi, Sule struck him on the forehead with a stick, causing injury, while Abdullahi escaped. The victim was treated and discharged at Under 5 Hospital, Jahun”, according to the police.
In a separate incident prompted by a distress call, police and community leaders arrested three other suspects (Manauwir Isa, Ayuba Umar Hassan, and Umar Shuaibu) for wielding dangerous weapons and causing unrest in the Mangororin Sale Toro area.
Reacting to the incidents, Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu commended the operatives for their swift intervention and reiterated a commitment to curbing local crime.
