Scandal in Edo LG over farmers grant’ conquest

Corruption scandal over alleged missing names of shortlisted farmers to benefit from government grant involving desperate officials in Oredo Local Government Area of the State, is generating ripples.

Council sources said the angry staffers of the Council are calling for a detailed probe into the awful data mining that occured at the verge of their breakthroughs.

They have also asked the Chairman of the Council, Dr Tom Obaseki to take responsibility for the disappointment after enrollees had undergone camera interviews on orders from above before the sudden twist.

Another Council official who craved for anonymity, accused Obaseki of supervising the process, which he termed ‘orchestrated sham’ behind the weird but telling scandal.

He also alleged that the affected staffers after undergoing periodic training, had their names weeded out the final list of 20 names that were allocated to the Council.

But, he said when the shortlisted staffers showed up during another round of engagement at the Council Secretariat this week, they got the shocker, which gave them the germ of an idea that their names were missing on the list.

TheNewspad investigation revealed that aggrieved workers left the arena grudgingly, a revelation that has unsettled the Council’s leadership.

Effort to reach Oredo Local Government Council boss, Dr. Tom Obaseki for comments has been unsuccessful.
