A Nigerian journalist, Aar Terna Amos has narrated his ordeal in the hands of armed robbers on Naka-Makurdi road, few kilometers from Makurdi, the Benue state Capital on at about 9p.m Tuesday.
The attack comes in the wake of alleged fatal attack on Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Naka area in an ambush.
Mr. Aar, the Benue State Correspondent of the National Record Newspaper who was caught in the melee, disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement.
The passengers who boarded vehicles from Otukpo to Makurdi, ran into the robbery scene, while the robbers maltreated some passengers who later begged for their sim cards, according to him.
He alleged that robbers also raped two (2) female passengers in the operation that lasted for more than an hour without any intervention by security agents.
He also alleged that the robbers also collected their phones and other valuables on them, while threatening to kill anyone who do not have a handset or money on them.
He said, “We took off from Otukpo at about 7:30pm because there was few Passengers at the park because of the increment in transport fair as a result of the high cost of fuel”.
“So, we were coming without any challenge until we saw a vehicle in front of us close to Adaka, a village before Makurdi but we thought it was a security checkpoint until we met the robbers.
He however thanked God for sparing their lives in the hands of the robbers and cautioned passengers plying the road to avoid night journeys, even as he called on the security agencies to step up surveillance on the highway ward-off criminals from the State.
