A self-proclaimed Niger Delta agitator is in police net for planning to lead a protest against emergency rule in Rivers State, Southern Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu declared emergency rule in Rivers State due to worsening political crisis in the State on March 18th March 2025.

He appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas, retired, following the suspension of democratic government for a period of six months amid outrage.

In a statement, spokesperson for the Niger Delta Congress (NDC) described the arrest of the agitator as
as a crackdown on free speech in Nigeria.

The suspect was nabbed in Port Harcourt on Tuesday by operatives of the Nigeria Police which had invited one of its leaders, according to the group.

The statement alleged that Mudiaga.Ogboru, had received police invitations from both Lagos and Rivers, described the move as intimidation, vowing that Niger Delta voices will not be silenced.
