Police: Ogun industrial explosion injure 9 staff

Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State has confirmed an industrial explosion at Phoenix Metal Company in Ogijo area of the State where nine staff of the industry got injured.

But it said no life was lost in Sunday March 9, 2024 blast, which occurred at about 2138hrs, was attributed to a cylinder explosion.

The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State, SP Omolola Odutola in a statement said the incident destroyed some houses in the locality.

The statement said the injured were taken to Rolayo Private Hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos State for urgent medicare, failed to reveal the names of the victims.

SP Omolola who relied on witnesses account, explained that the explosion happened at the melting point area without no life threatening injuries.

The explosion, according to the police, impacted nearby houses causing damage from the blast, which left houses windows frames, cracked due to the vibrations from the blast, according to the police.

SP Omolola said policemen and army detachment of 174 battalion in Odogunyan Ikorodu Area in Lagos State prevented attempts by enraged Community youths tried to attack the company in a reprisal attack.

The statement assured that “More Security reinforcements have been deployed to prevent further uproar or disturbances, from angry mob who may want to take advantage of the distress.

“The situation is under control and close monitoring, there is no reason for panic, ahead of further updates which will be communicated to members of the public”, SP Omolola stressed.
