Stakeholders in Anambra State have withdrawn their support from the re-election bid of Senator Uche Ekwunife, representing Anambra Central Constituency.

This followed alleged unsavory comments attributed to the Senator against Mr. Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of Labour party in the upcoming general elections.

Ekwunife who is seeking reelection on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming election came under fire over comments against Obi.

Although the Senator had denied making any derogatory statement against the two-term governor of Anambra State, political pundits have it that eligible voters in the area including the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural Organization, vowed to mobilise against the embattled lawmaker.

Senator Ekwunife disclosed this to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (,NUJ), Anambra State Council on Wednesday in Awka where she denied anything against the Presidential ambition of Obi and Labour party.

The Senator, explained that as PDP Senatorial Candidate in the poll, it will be suicidal for her to divert attention from the onerous task of consolidating on her mandate, by driving wedge against Obi

Speaking on Local Government Administration, Senator Ekwunife,
who is also the chairman,  Senate Committee on Science and Innovation, berated Nigerian Governors for rejecting autonomy for Local Government which his also their cash cow.

She revealed that “as a sitting Senator I can’t imagine myself using my letter head to start writing and castigating Peter Obi. Peter is running for President and I am running for the Senate.

“They are making it to look as if I am running for president with Peter; I am not. My opponent in Labour Party is Victor Umeh. So, if I go for campaign my opponent is not Peter.”

“They are fabricating those things to pitch my head against Agulu people, against Peter and my supporters. Those things did not emanate from me, not at all”, she stressed.

Ekwunife highlighted her achievements in the upper legislative Chamber and gave reasons why she should be reelected.
