Okpebholo, VC, NIS boss take part in Igue festival

The Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo and the Vice Chancellor, University of Benin along with the Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Edo State Command, Martins Monyei took part in the 2024 Ewere ceremonial gifts and blessings from Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin.

Both the Director, Edo State First Lady’s office, Mrs Edesili Anani, Zonal Director, Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Benin Network Centre, Teni Ajayi
and members of the State Executive Council, including the Attorney General of the State, Dr Samson Osagie as well as the State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Lawrence Okah attended the event.

One after the other, the guests paid tributes to Oba Ewuare who sent his guests Ewere leaves, which symbolize peace, blessings and longevity.

Chief Norense Ozigbo-Esere, the Osuma of Benin and Chief Osamede Adun, the Aiyobahan of Benin made presentations at different intervals amid buzz and cultural fusion in a rare spectacle.

Ozigbo-Esere in his colourful ceremonial costume, offered prayer and sent his goodwill message to Oba Ewuare II. This was followed by the Aiyobahan who played the role of the ‘old man’ in presented ‘Ekpoki’ containing items for Ugie Ewere to him after a mesmerizing back-and-forth dance that thrilled onlookers.

Oba Ewuare Queens and members of the Benin Royal family, groups, including members Executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, also paid respect to the first Class traditional ruler.

Delightful members of Ihogbe group, entertained guests with ancient Benin traditional songs with their unique culinary skills at the event where
Oba Ewuare Queens stunned Royal fans eager to end the year on a high note.
