Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Nigeria police Command in Ogun State have neutralized two kidnapping gang members, leading to the safe release of abducted Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris in the State.
The hostage was abducted on 30th June, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., when the perpetrators invaded his residence at Okun Owa and whisked him away.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said in a statement said the significant breakthrough also led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to be a ransom bag, and other incriminating exhibits.
He said, “Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the activation of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, supported by other tactical teams, to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible”.
“As a result of sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical pressure mounted on the kidnappers, the victim regained his freedom unharmed on 3rd July, 2026.
“Following the victim’s release, operatives intensified efforts to apprehend the kidnappers. Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis.
“On sighting the police, the kidnappers engaged the operatives in a gun duel”, according to the police spokesman, “the operatives responded decisively, leading to the neutralisation of two kidnappers, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds”, according to the statement.
The statement also said a search conducted on the neutralised kidnappers led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with one empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to be a ransom bag, and other exhibits linked to the criminal operation.
Accordingly, corpses of the neutralised kidnappers have been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional exhibits.
