Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin has commenced the 2024 annual Igue festival with Ugierhoba traditional rites in Oba palace, Benin City, Edo State.

In a surprise move, Palace protocol was slightly relaxed, paving the way for cultural enthusiasts to keep the memory of the event held at the sacred altars — dedicated to Oba of Benin forebears.

Oba Ewuare II led his member of the Benin Royal family during the traditional rites at Ugierhoba, dedicated to his Royal ancestors.

Palace functionaries, including Benin Chiefs who joined the celebration also took turns to pay homage to the Oba Benin in the ongoing festival.

Ohen Awan N’ Ivbiotor, made a presentation to the Oba with measured diligence, lurched into the realm of the spirit.

He sang to the tunes of Royal drummers and prayed for the Oba and proclaimed peace in Benin Kingdom.

Various Royal Guilds, including Ifiento, Emehe Royal Guilds gave a good account of themselves at the event that made a push for global recognition.

Also, Oba Ewuare II Queens (Iloi) had their moment at the inner chamber amid excitement during the festival, which began Centuries ago.
